Starting 18 August 2025, international student visa applications will move to Immigration New Zealand’s upgraded Immigration Online platform. If you plan to apply during this period, it’s important to understand how your application may be affected as we transition to the new system.
Over the next seven years, all visa categories will gradually shift to our enhanced Immigration Online system, known as ADEPT. Since its introduction in 2021, ADEPT has already supported applications for Visitor Visas, Accredited Employer Work Visas, and Permanent Resident Visas.
From 18 August 2025, if you are applying for any of the following student visa categories, you will be automatically directed to the new application form:
- English Language Studies Visa
- Exchange Student Visa
- Fee Paying Student Visa
- Pathway Student Visa
- NZ Government Scholarship Student Visa
- Foreign Government Supported Student Visa
Transition Guidelines
- Applications submitted using the current form on or before 17 August will continue to be processed. You do not need to reapply. You will still be able to upload documents and respond to requests until a decision is made and communicated to you.
- If you have a draft application in the old system that is not submitted by 17 August, you will have until 17 September 2025 to complete and submit it. Alternatively, you may choose to start a fresh application using the new form.
- After 17 September, any remaining draft applications using the old form will be deleted. At that point, you will need to begin a new application in the upgraded system.
